ourtimelines.com is a great way to get a feel for your ancestors time period. This page makes it very easy to do that. Simply enter the birth year and the name, and it will generate a list of well known people who were alive at the same time as your ancestor. Another great way to get a feel for your ancestors is to know what was going on in the world at that time. This page will make a timeline timeline for you that will tell you what was going on at the time they were alive. This form form on the S. Morgan Friedman page adjusts any given amount of money for inflation, from 1800 to 2001. This site can determine the value of an amount of money in one year compared to another. For example, you may want to know: How much money would you need today to have the same "purchasing power" as one of your ancestors that was worth $500 in year 1800. It may not be genealogy but this place gives away free American Flags and that's cool.
