The Top Military Web Sites

OK now that you have found out who your Ancestors are you probably want to find out more about them and one of the most exciting things you can learn about is the military history of your ancestors. Looking for military records can be a tricky job especially for the early wars as the records are often scattered all over the place but when you find what you are looking for it will be well worth all the hard work.

Remember when doing military research you may also have to look in another country. Remember the U.S.A. and Canada have a very interconnected military history and people from one country often fought in the wars of the other so you need to think in broad terms. For Example maybe as a child you heard that Grampa Bob from New York fought in France in World War One but you cant find him in any U.S. military records. Lots of people don't know that thousands of Americans went to Canada and joined the Canadian army so they could get into the fight. In the American Civil War a large number of Canadians went south to fight in America.

The Following is a list of links to some of the best military records web sites and databases that I have found wile doing my own research. I have lots more links that I will add later but for now I hope that these ones will be of use.
